The Coalition to Monitor the Indigenous Peoples Bill is a coalition of more than 65 civil society organizations committed to monitoring the birth of the Indigenous Peoples Law.
We were formed to encourage fair and comprehensive legal recognition of the rights of Indigenous Peoples in Indonesia, as a form of respect for the identity, land, culture, and local wisdom that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Driven by the slow state recognition and ongoing conflicts and criminalization of indigenous communities, this coalition has become a forum for collective struggle across sectors. We believe that the ratification of the Indigenous Peoples Bill is an important step towards bringing ecological, social, and constitutional justice to the life of the nation and state.
Affirming the state's recognition of Indigenous Peoples as mandated by Article 18B of the 1945 Constitution and Constitutional Court Decision 35/2012.
Protecting customary forests as an important part of the ecosystem that is sustainably managed by indigenous communities.
Guarantee the rights to life, culture, land and resources inherited collectively by Indigenous Peoples.
Preserving local values, languages, arts and wisdom as invaluable national treasures.
Providing space for community-based resource management for sustainable well-being.
Prevent land grabbing, agrarian conflicts, and criminalization of indigenous communities and their leaders.
